More than 325 people celebrated our region’s most comprehensive children’s charity at the 10th annual Kosair for Kids Pie Auction. Proceeds further the Kosair for Kids mission to assist with healthcare bills, medical equipment, and therapies families could otherwise not afford. The organization also funds ground-breaking research, education, and social services, and leads the effort to end child abuse and neglect.
The auction included dozens of desserts created by signature Louisville-area chefs going to the highest bidder. For those without a sweet tooth, this year’s auction also included several savory pies and breads, including pot pies, scones, and Chicago deep-dish pizzas.
Those in attendance also learned the story of Kosair Kid Jace, a sweet and loving five-year-old boy who underwent heart surgery. Thanks to generous Kosair for Kids supporters, Jace’s parents could focus on him and not mounting medical bills.
“The sense of not being in control of something like that just feels hopeless,” explained Jace’s mom, Holly, who also serves and protects her community as an LMPD officer. “We were praying that Jace would be healthy and happy.”
There is so much stress of just trying to make sure your kid gets better, and the stress of medical bills makes it astronomically harder,” Jace’s dad, Chris, explained. “It really meant a lot to have that support, knowing that we wouldn’t fall flat on our face.”
“Kosair for Kids has long been the safety net for children in their time of need,” said Barry Dunn, Kosair for Kids President and CEO. “Our annual Pie Auction is doubly sweet because it allows us to connect our caring and generous supporters who create that safety net with Kosair Kids like Jace.”
While the total dollar amount raised from Sunday’s event is still being tabulated, organizers anticipated raising more than $130,000 to help Kosair Kids live life to the fullest.
