Sweet Treats Create Big Impact for Kosair Kids

More than 300 people celebrated our region’s most comprehensive children’s charity at the 11th annual Kosair for Kids Pie Auction. Proceeds further the Kosair for Kids mission to assist with healthcare bills, medical equipment, and therapies that families could not otherwise afford. The organization also funds ground-breaking medical research, education, and social services, and leads the effort to end child abuse and neglect.

The auction featured dozens of desserts created by renowned Louisville-area chefs, which went to the highest bidder. For those without a sweet tooth, this year’s auction also included several savory pies and breads, including pot pies, scones, and Chicago deep-dish pizzas.

Those in attendance also learned the story of Kosair Kid Elliot, a sweet and determined toddler who was born with spina bifida. Thanks to generous Kosair for Kids supporters, Elliot’s parents, Alec and Whitney, could focus on him and not on costly medical bills.

“I couldn’t be more grateful,” Alec said. “I look at Kosair for Kids as part of the backbone of our family, and it really is a big relief that I don’t have to worry about certain things when it comes to Kosair for Kids.”

“I don’t know the next step and what’s going to happen, but I do know Kosair for Kids is going to have our backs,” Whitney said.

“Kosair for Kids continues to be the safety net children depend on during challenging times,” said Barry Dunn, Kosair for Kids President and CEO. “Our annual Pie Auction is special because it allows us to connect with our compassionate supporters who help strengthen that safety net for so many children like Elliot.”

While the total amount raised from Sunday’s event is still being tabulated, organizers anticipated raising more than $100,000 to help Kosair Kids live life to the fullest.
