Nearly 2,000 Kosair Kids and their families experienced the power of joy at the Louisville Zoo tonight. Children of differing abilities enjoyed a safe trick-or-treat experience at the 17th annual Kosair Charities Halloween Party during Boo at the Zoo.
Since 2005, Kosair Kids have dressed in their favorite costumes and toured the zoo collecting candy, seeing animals, and just being a kid in an environment that was friendly to their specific needs.
The Kosair Charities Halloween Party is a tradition for families like Ashley, who brought her Kosair Kids Maddox and Ruby to this year’s event.
“It’s fantastic,” Ashley explained. “The crowds are small or smaller and it gives the kids more room and less sensory overload. It’s fantastic!”
“My favorite part was seeing the joy on kids’ faces as we have a Kosair Kids experience right here at the zoo,” said Kosair Charities President Barry Dunn. “We do this every year to make sure that all Kosair Kids know how much we love them, how much we appreciate them, and it’s what we’re going to do moving into the future as we spread more joy, care, and hope than ever before.”
The Mitchell family smiled throughout the night as their little dinosaur roared his way through the zoo collecting candy.
“I think it’s a blessing to everyone,” Mom said. “I’m praying that you guys come back next year too. It was a blessing.”
Since 1923, Kosair Charities has worked to create a world where children in need live life to the fullest by enhancing the health and well-being of children by delivering financial support for healthcare, research, education, social services, and child advocacy.
