Kosair for Kids Advisory Council Awards $400,000 in Grants

An expanded medical clinic to provide more pediatric health screenings in West Louisville, youth mental health services in southern Indiana, and food delivery to children in need in northern Kentucky are among the highlights of the 2025 Kosair for Kids Advisory Council grants. Ten youth-serving organizations will be able to help more children thanks to our region’s most comprehensive children’s charity and the $400,000 awarded during a celebratory reception and news conference today.

Brandon’s House Counseling Center, The Center for Courageous Kids, A Place to Sleep, Inc., UMCFOOD, Childplace, Inc., St. George’s Scholar Institute, Personal Counseling Services, Inc., Louisville Central Community Centers, Inc., Tracy Patton Ministries, Inc., and West End School are the organizations receiving grants this year. A complete list of the projects and grant amounts is at the bottom of this news release.

Nearly 30 community leaders serve on the Kosair for Kids Advisory Council, which provides guidance and insight into critical issues facing children across Kentucky and southern Indiana. Each year, council members review grant requests from organizations seeking assistance with their mission.

Bob Bonsutto serves as the Chair of the Kosair for Kids Advisory Council. He explained the important role this body plays in the overall Kosair for Kids mission to be the catalyst for a world in which all children live life to the fullest. “A child can’t thrive when they’re hungry, when they have no safe place to sleep, when the trauma they face goes untreated,” he explained. “Kosair for Kids has never shied away from tackling the tough issues facing our children, and I feel this year’s grants address needs that might otherwise go unnoticed in our communities. By providing these funds, we are not only lending our support to key allies on the front lines of this mission, but we are also shining a spotlight on issues to lead other compassionate citizens to join in the effort.”

“We are so grateful for the dedicated Kosair for Kids Advisory Council members who generously give of their time, talent, and treasure each day,” said Kosair for Kids President & CEO Barry Dunn. “Their ability to recognize the vital issues facing our children and willingness to lead by example is a blessing, not only to our organization, but to generations of children who may never know what dedicated champions they had standing up for them.”

The following organizations received Kosair for Kids grants:

A Place to Sleep - $30,000

The Shelbyville-based organization provides beds and bedding for children. A Place to Sleep works with third-party agencies, organizations, and schools that recommend children in need of assistance. Their efforts aim to remove barriers to learning, particularly the lack of an adequate and suitable bed for each child to sleep. This grant will support efforts to serve an additional 100 children.

Brandon’s House Counseling Center - $46,650

This grant will help with a project to expand the number of counseling rooms at the New Albany non-profit. They are currently facing an urgent need with 41 teens on their waitlist for mental health services. Brandon’s House Counseling Center expects to serve 108 children next year with the help of Kosair for Kids.

Childplace, Inc. - $42,000

Childplace, Inc. is the largest provider of residential services for children and adolescents in southern Indiana. Many of the children they serve have endured trauma. Childplace provides hope and healing for at-risk children through its structured living environment, therapy and psychiatric services, educational programs and support, and opportunities for spiritual growth. This grant will help the organization purchase a 12-passenger van to transport clients to appointments, activities, and events.

The Center for Courageous Kids - $57,000

The Center for Courageous Kids is a 168-acre camp in Scottsville, Kentucky, offering children with disabilities and lifelong illnesses the chance to experience the joys of summer camp – building confidence, making friends, and having fun in an accessible, focused, medically inclusive environment, all at no cost to families. This project is an investment in inclusion, safety, and camper confidence at one of the most beloved camp spaces… the dining hall.

Louisville Central Community Centers, Inc. - $50,000

This grant will fund the foundational planning and improvements to launch Louisville Central Community Centers' (LCCC) "Re-Imagining the Mini-Versity" initiative—a direct response to the interlocking health and educational crises facing the children and families of West Louisville. LCCC will convert an 800-square-foot area into a modern maternal and pediatric health clinic with a goal of providing 100 pediatric wellness checks in the first six months of operation.

Personal Counseling Services, Inc. - $38,000

Improved infrastructure providing a safer, healthier, and more accessible environment will be created at Personal Counseling Services with this Kosair for Kids grant. The updated space and technology will allow the staff to better serve children and youth in the Clarksville community. The organization provides mental health services to everyone desiring wellness of body, mind, spirit, and community, and impacts the lives of 230 children each year.

St. George’s Scholar Institute - $22,000

SGSI exists to embrace, educate, and empower youth in Louisville’s West End. They work to fulfill this mission through three free or low-cost programs that address academic achievement, personal growth, and opportunity. This grant will provide the technology needed to expand outreach for a program that serves 125 children each year.

Tracy Patton Ministries, Inc. - $24,350

Providing food for families of children in need will become more efficient with the help of this grant. Tracy Patton Ministries, Inc. will purchase an inventory scanning system that will streamline their efforts and help them identify any recalled food items in order to better protect the children they serve.

UMCFOOD - $45,000

UMCFOOD provides hot meals in after-school programs during the school year, hot meals to partner agencies that provide care and camps for children during the summer and provides hundreds of thousands of 7-day boxes of breakfast and lunch to children in rural counties. In several counties, they provide home delivery of meal boxes, as transportation is a critical need for obtaining food, and programs are not available or not accessible to children. This grant will assist them in purchasing a delivery van to provide some of the nearly 4 million free meals they deliver each year.

West End School - $45,000

West End School provides a safe and structured environment for scholars in grades pre-kindergarten through 8th grade in which academic rigor, character development, and responsible action establish the foundation for a purposeful life. This grant will help them purchase a van used to transport children for events and field trips. This project is critical due to the school’s recent expansion of a new girls' school.
