Hundreds expected at Kosair for Kids Hats On for Healing Auction.

A chance to look fabulous and make a difference at the same time! 44 days before the Kentucky Derby, hundreds of people will gather at The Olmsted as they prepare their Derby outfits. The Kosair for Kids Hats On for Healing auction benefits the beloved charity’s Child Abuse Prevention Fund, which helped advocate for and protect nearly 175,000 children last year alone.

Since the 1940s, Kosair for Kids has helped at-risk children. Starting in the days when it was the Kosair Crippled Children Hospital, the organization helped to house victims of abuse and neglect while assisting social service agencies. A renewed emphasis in the 1970s included therapeutic daycare services and shelter available to children under the age of 6 in Louisville. At that time, Kosair for Kids was also the largest contributor to the Jefferson County Child Abuse Authority.

Today, our region’s most comprehensive children’s charity is the leader in protecting children. Whether through the Face It Movement formed in 2013, funding forensic pediatricians, physicians, healthcare providers, and non-profits specializing in prevention and intervention, Kosair for Kids has had a role in bringing down instances of abuse and neglect.

While recent reports outline success, there is still a long way to go until all Kentucky and southern Indiana children are safe. Thursday’s auction is important in this continuing effort.

Hats On for Healing is open to media and will provide an opportunity to look at the visually stunning hats, take in the festive atmosphere, and get a feel for the joy that comes from making a difference while preparing for Derby season.
