Thursday, January 23, marked 100 days until Kentucky Derby 151. There was no better way to wish this snowy weather away than by thinking of the first Saturday in May. Kosair for Kids volunteers are looking forward to Derby while keeping their commitment to ending child abuse and neglect at the top of their minds. About a dozen ladies put the finishing touches on Derby hats and fascinators, preparing more than 300 for the Hats On for Healing auction in March. The exclusive one-stop Derby fashion experience benefits the Kosair for Kids Child Abuse Prevention Fund.
Many of these same volunteers spent the Sunday after last year’s Derby at local hotels and airports collecting gently used hats from visitors heading home after the big weekend. That designer headwear has been touched up and readied for the auction that will take place on March 13 at the Olmsted.
