Thursday, January 26, marks 100 days until Kentucky Derby 149. Caring volunteers will put the finishing touches on repurposed Derby hats and fascinators, preparing more than 300 for the Hats On For Healing auction that benefits Kosair Charities’ effort to end child abuse and neglect.
Kosair Charities volunteers gathered the donated hats from visitors at several area hotels following the 2022 Kentucky Derby. Since many out-of-town Derby-goers could not safely pack their hats or fascinators for the trip home, they gladly offered them for this worthy cause. Most of the designer headwear was in mint (julep) condition and ready for resale, while volunteers painstakingly spruced up others.
On Thursday morning, you will see volunteers working on hats, as well as dozens of other hats that are available through the online auction that will go active that same morning. Tickets are also on sale for the Hats On For Healing event to be held Thursday, March 23, at the Olmsted.
