Staff Accountant

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of Kosair for Kids. The Staff Accountant is responsible for all accounts payable administrative functions, including matching invoices to entries in the Kosair for Kids expense management system, obtaining approval, processing payments, and verifying employee credit card reports. This position will also be responsible for importing donations, journalizing cash receipts, reconciling investment accounts, and performing monthly balance sheet and bank account reconciliation.


The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  •     Management of the Accounts Payable from start to finish, including vendor setup, correspondence, and maintenance
  •     Process payments in a timely manner, and prepare checks for mailing, distribution, and delivery
  •     Process all electronic payments and prepare registers for board and finance staff
  •     Reconcile the Accounts Payable ledger to ensure all bills and payments are accounted for and posted properly
  •     Verify and investigate discrepancies, if any, by reconciling vendor accounts and monthly vendor statements 
  •     Audits all invoices for proper account classification and project codes
  •     Responsible for processing and issuing 1099 records to vendors
  •     Ensures all documentation related to accounts payable is entered in Kosair for Kids accounting software, including invoice copies, check copies, vendor records
  •     Ensure event expenses are recorded in proper periods
  •     Prepare monthly reconciliation of all investment accounts
  •     Daily import of all donations to the constituent database
  •     Prepares monthly bank reconciliations for all cash accounts
  •     Completes monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  •     Maintains records retention log to facilitate the orderly file system of permanent records for adherence to record retention policy
  •     Maintains custodial assets
  •     Demonstrates effective communication and problem-solving skills
  •     Utilizes accounting system, Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge, and spreadsheet software
  •     Assists with annual audit
  •     Perform various complex account analyses and reconciliations
  •     Performs other duties as assigned


  •     Minimum 2+ years of experience in accounting or related field
  •     Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and applications, specifically Microsoft Excel
  •     Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  •     Considerable knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices
  •     Skill in operating and inputting data into financial accounting software with accuracy and efficiency
  •     Ability to perform simple to moderately complex operations in financial accounting and in the use of spreadsheets
  •     Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions and meet deadlines 
  •     Ability to work with minimal supervision; strong work ethic
  •     Ability and willingness to learn new software applications
  •     Must be detail-oriented, accurate, efficient, and well-organized
  •     Willingness to learn
