Kosair Kids: Amelia & Ayla
The Brock family—Phillip, Leslie, Adyson, and Avery—learned about hearing loss when they adopted 19-month-old Amelia from China. At a checkup when Amelia was 25 months old, she was diagnosed with bilateral hearing loss.
A few years later, three-year-old Ayla, also from China, joined the Brock family. Ayla required two cochlear implants due to hearing loss.
The Brock family turned to Kosair Charities grant recipient Heuser Hearing & Language Academy (HHLA) for support. Amelia and Ayla attended HHLA as preschoolers and received crucial education for their futures. Your support ensures HHLA and 90+ other organizations who receive Kosair Charities grants can continue providing essential resources, therapy, and educational services to children in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
Through the Kosair Kids® Financial Assistance Program, Ayla also received a new receiver to connect to her cochlear implant. After severely struggling to hear on computer speakers during non-traditional instruction (NTI), the Financial Assistance Program provided the costly equipment not covered by insurance.
“We are so thankful for Kosair Charities donors for helping us buy this technology for Ayla. When Ayla first connected this equipment to her cochlear implant, her eyes lit up with joy! She could finally hear well through her computer. It was priceless. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!” –Mom, Leslie.
